Boating Away Your Norfolk Holidays
If you like the water, the Broads offer a unique way to spend your Norfolk holidays in relaxing pleasure. Imagine cruising the waterways at your own leisure in a boat rental from one of the area's many proprietors. Boats are relatively simple to operate, and you'll be free to moor up where you will for the night, pop up on deck for your morning tea, and see mile after mile of unspoilt natural beauty, all without having to navigate a lock.
Boating holidays tend to be a bit intimidating to novices, but they need not be. Most of the boats you'll encounter come complete with sleeping berths, flush toilets, and galley appliances. All the comforts of home are available on your boat, just on a smaller scale.
You can choose cruisers and yachts to accommodate anything from an intimate getaway with your mate to an extended family trip. Whatever you need is yours. There are plenty of places to go ashore for sightseeing day trips, while waterside pubs and restaurants make for an active night life for the adults.
For obvious reasons, Norfolk holidays are best enjoyed during the summer season. But autumn and spring offer their own special treasures for those who don't mind the cooler weather. Regardless of your chosen season, you might decide to get under way in Wroxham, on the Bure River. Cruise along the Bure's total length of almost 30 miles down to Great Yarmouth. Along the way you might take a short cruise up the Thurne, which meets the Bure at her 16-mile mark.
You might choose to depart from Norwich, heading south on the Yare. Downstream about 17 miles is the Chet, which flows from the west for 6 miles. Then continue on the Yare to Great Yarmouth or pick up the Waveney to enjoy a 10 mile cruise down to Lowestoft on the east coast.
Along any of the rivers you'll encounter a variety of natural wildlife, great fishing spots, interesting land marks, and plenty of places to moor. You'll also find numerous Blake boat bases if you run into trouble or need to restock your supplies. A handful of manned yacht stations dot the routes as well.
Norfolk holidays for boaters are becoming more and more popular every season. It's a great way to get out and see the Broads from the privacy of your own boat. If the prospect frightens you a bit, any of the local operators will be more than happy to answer your questions and give you all the help and instruction you need.
If you like the water, give yourself and your family the Norfolk holidays you deserve. Take a boating holiday unlike anything you've tried before.
